Its quite good actually, well it’s effective and executed well. The animations are smooth, its quick, but then it is very limited. It does however give you a good feel for how the Windows Metro OS works. It will also start a bit of debate and discussion which might result in some positive PR, which is why it was an excellent idea. Will it convert everyone, probably not, Microsoft are so late to the party, only hardcore Zune fans will be queuing up for this one, remember the Zune?

In the market for a new smartphone? What about one that has an already redundant and obsolete operating system on? Didn’t think so, never the less Nokia have launched their latest iPhone copy.

Don’t get me wrong this isn’t a post about how the N9 is an inferior device and is completely worthless, its not completely worthless and the design is actually ok. Let’s start with ‘All Screen’ design. Marketing gimmicky name aside, its not a bad idea and something even Apple have yet to attempt, a device with no home button, bold of them to try, but worth some credit for a little innovation. They get absolutely no credit with replacing the word plastic with polycarbonate though, I see through you and your clever words.

The design does look a lot like former iterations of the iPod Nano, even down to the available colours, but what’s really important to point out here is that the operating system packaged with this device is morgue material, as most people who care already know, Nokia sold their soul to the Ballmer and decided to start using Windows Mobile 7 as the native OS for all their future devices. Admittedly it probably saved the company from going under, but you have to wonder if there was a deal on the table from Google. I think it seems a shame for Nokia, just as they start to produce something even close to desirable, unlike ugly sister Nokia N8, with an evolved OS they will be moving over to the dark side.

Still, at least the microsite is a half descent job: swipe.nokia.com
